2010 Young Lions Competition
This year's competition received a great response--187 teams participated, a 23% increase over 2009.The winning teams in each category have won a trip to Cannes and the opportunity to represent Canada in the official Cannes Lions Young Lions competition held during the festival this summer.
Congratulations to everyone who participated. The quality of the entries was top notch and the judges had a hard time picking winners. For that reason, this year, we have decided to recognize the top three in each category. Although only the winners receive the coveted trip to Cannes, we felt it was important to recognize our top Canadian talent.

Parkinson Society Canada has been supporting Canadians living with Parkinson’s since 1965. With 12 regional partners and over 235 chapters and support groups, Parkinson Society
Canada is the only Canadian charity dedicated to research, education, support and advocacy on behalf of over 100,000 Canadians living with Parkinson’s. As the national voice of Canadians living with Parkinson’s disease the society’s vision is for a better life with a brighter future for Canadians living with Parkinson’s today--a world without Parkinson’s tomorrow.
Parkinson’s is a neurodegenerative disease. A progressive disorder that affects the brain’s ability to control movement--the body can become stiff and unable to move without the help of medication. Movement is normally controlled by dopamine, a chemical that carries signals between the nerves in the brain. When cells that normally produce dopamine die, the symptoms of Parkinson’s appear. Currently there is no cure. You can live with Parkinson’s for years. The symptoms are treated
with medication. The most common symptoms are tremors, slowness, stiffness, impaired balance and rigidity of the muscles.
The Challenge
The market is saturated with charitable messaging. Currently, the marketplace recognizes the name but has extremely low awareness of what Parkinson’s is. Parkinson’s is a complex andmisunderstood disease with much of the public believing it is a disease that mainly afflicts the elderly.
A secondary challenge for Parkinson Society Canada is that the Michael J. Fox Foundation is now raising funds in Canada. There is confusion in the marketplace and a misperception that the two organizations are working together. Funds raised here by the Michael J. Fox Foundation do not stay in Canada.
The Objective
Increase awareness of Parkinson’s disease by making it known to empathetic Canadians. This will be accomplished by creating an understanding of the disease and exposing Parkinson’s asa disease with greater impact than people think.
