Cannes Lions I'm finally back in Toronto having enjoyed a few extra days of Cote d'Azure sun and have been reflecting on my Cannes experience.
A few themes emerged: rose, rose and more rose, the Dutch are hot and interesting scientific analogies.

From the minute I got to Cannes to the minute I left, I felt nothing but nonstop inspiration. To being in the paradise that is the south of France, to being surrounded by brilliance and unbelievable creativity. I was constantly thinking "what do I need to do to be able to come back year after year". Everything about my Cannes festival experience has inspired me to get to work and come up with as many big ideas as possible. Phenomenal experience.....

Okay, it's true that I've followed this year's Cannes Lions with a trip to Prague. Ostensibly, I came to meet with Georg Hodek, a film and content distributor, but in reality I'm here to get my blood changed. (Keith Richards may have preferred the centrifuges in Switzerland, but everything is cheaper in the Czech Republic). I'm just trying to recover from the rigours of the most active week I have ever seen at the festival (and honest, I wasn't trying to keep up with anyone!).
Looking back, here are the five main things I learned at Cannes this year:

This week has gone by incredibly fast. As a first time young lion, I definitely came here with high expectations, and have not been disappointed. The week has been a whirlwind of competition, parties and of course, some pretty incredible speakers.

This has been an unbelievable experience for me. I have been wanting to travel for a while, and being in Cannes, France, is a dream. Not to mention being able to compete in a national competition.
Sarah and I competed in the Young Lions Media competition (See photo; Sarah is on the left, I'm on the right). It was a tough brief, but in the end we were happy with our presentation. Alas, it didn't make the big win, but it was worth the lost sleep. (It was a 24 hour competition, and we only slept one hour during that time).
After the competition we were able to cut loose, socialize, and attend pretty cool seminars.
It's very inspiring to be in such an atmosphere. I only wish we weren't going home on Sunday!

Alan is a Canadian advertising legend. His work has garnered awards from almost every major awards show, including the Cannes Lions Advertising Festival.
As my title suggests, the "C" in Cannes this year could easily stand for Crisis.... or Change.
The global economic situation has wreaked havoc on Cannes... less delegates, and alas for some, less parties (this could be a good thing).

Cannes Lions Jenny Smith is the Creative Group Head for Target and a member of the Radio Jury. Smith has been with Target for eight years, one of only eight agencies in the country to win a Gold Lion at Cannes. Smith has also taken home awards from the London International awards, the Cassies and Atlantic Canada's ICE Awards, among other competitions.
It wasn’t a vintage year for radio. But nevertheless, I heard some amazing stuff, which included some great spots for Gain Laundry Detergent by Leo Burnett--the only Canadian work that made the medal round (congratulations, by the way... the jury was very impressed by the humour and quality of writing for such a tough category).

I think it is time for someone at Cannes to post on the blog, so I am taking the first step. It is Sunday my 5th day in Cannes. I have spent 4 days on the promo jury with 18 other very talented individuals from around the world. I consider the journey an honor and a privilege and thank those who sent me.

I wasn't chosen to go to Cannes this year and I was wondering if anyone wanted to take me with them? I don't take up much space, don't eat all that much, and I don't snore--only quiet purring....
I’m crushed I won’t be able to see the great seminars that are line up: Obama’s campaign manager, Kofi Annan, and Roger Daltry! And I’m going to miss the Canadian Beach party, I did some great networking there last year.
