Canadians as Contestants
2011 marks the seventh year The Globe and Mail has served as the official Cannes Lions Canadian representative. It's a role we're extremely proud of, and one we take very seriously.

The Globe is committed to supporting Canadians at Cannes, whether they're seasoned veterans or wide-eyed first-timers. And naturally, when it comes to cheering for entrants, we're at the front of the line.



Canadians as Judges
As Canada's official representative, The Globe is also honoured to have been part of the 2011 committee for the Cannes' Canadian jury selection, which includes some of the country's brightest talents.

This year's Canadian Cannes Lions judges are:

DESIGN: Hélène Godin, Creative Director, Partner, Sid Lee
Hélène Godin has become well-known in the design world, nationally and internationally. A graduate of the Université du Québec à Montréal, she has built her reputation as one of the best imaginative thinkers of the decade.

FILM: Christina Yu, Executive Creative Director, Red Urban
It’s an art director’s nightmare: describe your career in under 250 words; no pictures, can’t choose the typeface, don’t get to kern anything. This is no good, particularly for an art director with a strong design streak, especially an art director with a strong design streak who happens to be a creative director as well.

MEDIA: Mark Sherman, Executive Chairman, Media Experts
Mark is recognized by his peers as a leader in the Canadian advertising community. Agencies and customers alike regard him as a strategic advertising thinker, and the media selling community sees him as a relentless negotiator. His approach to media, coupled with a unique techno-acumen, has also earned Mark the reputation of media futurist.

CYBER: Christina Brown, VP Creative, CloudRaker
Christina Brown started her career in 1998 at Cossette in Montreal. At just 29, she was promoted to National Group Creative Director on Canada’s biggest Telecommunications company account, where she was charged with overseeing creative across all touch-points including television, print, web and promotions.

DIRECT: Antoine Bécotte, Creative Director, Cossette, Montreal
Armed with a Degree in Graphic Communications from the University of Laval in Quebec City, Canada, Antoine Bécotte founded his own advertising agency, Blasphème Communications, in 1993. Having subsequently worked at Cossette for more than 10 years, Antoine is recognized for his creativity, versatility and precision and has enjoyed many distinctions.

RADIO: Paul Little, Creative Director, TBWA Vancouver
Paul Little grew up in the suburbs of Toronto. Craving adventure and wanting to be a part of the creative ad scene in Vancouver, he packed up his futon and snowboard and moved west and landed a job at DDB Vancouver where he went on to win awards at Cannes Lions, the One Show, The Clios and CA.

PROMO & ACTIVATION: Christine Dacyshyn, Senior Copy Writer, Ogilvy & Mather
Chris’ work has helped shape countless big brands, at home in Canada and globally. A bit bored with traditional advertising, Chris joined Ogilvy Toronto seven years ago, where she has been busy inventing activation ideas that invite consumers to participate in brands. It is this body of non-traditional work that has earned her much international recognition.

In 1992, Paul Lavoie co-founded TAXI with partner Jane Hope, successfully combining the disciplines of advertising and design. Growing into seven offices in Canada, the U.S., and Europe, and with an expanded product offering, TAXI remains independent and committed to its original vision.

Canadians as Some of World's Top Young Creatives
Yet another way The Globe supports Canadians at Cannes is through our annual Canadian Young Lions competition. This high-intensity contest helps us uncover Canada's top up-and-coming talent. More importantly, it entitles--and prepares--winners to participate in the official Cannes Young Lions competition that takes place during the festival.
