Social bookmarking is nothing new. For years Internet users have had access to sites like Delicious (formerly del.icio.us), Stumbleupon, Reddit, and Digg, all of which encourage consumers to tag pages and share them with others online.

It's called Bill C-11 and in many ways it's Canada's version of the infamous US House of Representatives and Senate Internet Privacy Bills that have sparked such conflict in recent months. South of the border the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect IP Act (PIPA) have media conglomerates and technology companies going head-to-head, the former battling against pirated content and the latter combatting what it perceives to be censorship.

With more than three-quarters of the population online, close to half of all Canadians on social networks, and the majority of users boasting at least ten years on the Web, all signs point to 'yes'. According to a new report by eMarketer the annual growth of Internet users in Canada is only expected to be about 2 per cent between now and 2015. What this means, in essence, is that the Internet is firmly embedded in our culture and in our lives.
